Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate depth that light from the Moxy penetrates into the tissue beneath it

It is   +- 1/2 the distance between RX  and light source. So  if  you have any NIRS  device  you can measure that  and  have  the  +- penetration depth of that particular  NIRS  equipment.

The penetration depth being 1/2 the distance between the send and receive optodes is a good rule of thumb.

The Moxy is a bit different than other NIRS devices in that it assumes that the tissue is made up of layers of epidermis, dermis, fat, and muscle.  It reports the oxygenation in the muscle layer regardless of the fat layer thickness.  This works well up to a fat layer thickness of about 12.5 mm.
