Just back form a cool day in the lab assessing this cyclist. Have analysed the data but thought Id let you guys have a play as we don't often get V02 data on here. Plus I have some video too

In a  5/1/5  you get a lot  of  unreal seen.

So  as longer he is doing  nothing as  higher RER  and above  1.0

What  does  that mean ?
When did  he created  this higher  CO2  levels  than  O2 utilization.

Great data, Stuart you are right, not often we have full set with VO2 data, thanks for sharing.



Juerg isn't that caused by delay VO2 machine uses to calculate the data, looks like fixed delay on the timeline, on the other hand l/min looks correct, what gives? [confused]

Observations:

  • Start load appeared quite high as a percentage of final load, so it is possible that the assessment misses some of the trends that would be observed at the very easy intensities.
  • Overall fairly low levels of Sm02 desaturation
  • Other than the 1st load, heart rate never really looks in control (HR increases within load,  HR is increasing across loads, recovery does not reach the same levels after equal loads)
  • THb on priority muscles doesn’t go much above baseline, this could be weak cardiac output but could also be weak capillary network development?
  • Some evidence inter-muscular co-ordination might not be optimal – e.g. Load 2B (i.e. 4th load), Sm02 is decreasing on VL already, but Sm02 on RF is still increasing).
  • I am not familiar enough with V02 data to integrate it, but VE seems to have a nice steady rise without a plateau

My interpretation (guess J ??) would be that limitation is local muscle utilisation (actually a combination of local delivery and utilisation), with cardiac as compensator. Co-ordination could be a limiter down the line.

Interested to hear how these thoughts compare with your own, and also how you are using the V02 data to supplement thoughts.

Stuart was this done on TT bike or TT position or road bike, how did you hold bars?
